Laura Condlin was cast in two wonderfully contrasting roles in the Stratford 2020 season: Captain Hook in Wendy and Peter Pan, and Mary Shelley in Frankenstein Revived by Morris Panych. Many readers might expect a poster for Frankenstein to feature the "monster" — but Mary Shelley is the main character in this new adaptation, so it was fun to contradict expectations by focussing on her. Our first concept sketch showed the author in surgical scrubs (long before any thought of the pandemic!) — her gloves dripping with blood. We cut the medical reference when we realized that it might create confusion (Victor Frankenstein was not being played by a female actor). It's still a wonderfully shocking image.
