Dracula begins with Jonathan Harker's visit to Castle Dracula, to complete formalities for the Count's purchase of a property in England – Carfax Abbey. Carfax is fictional, but it was inspired by a vist Bram Stoker made to Whitby Abbey in North Yorkshire. Stoker sets several chapters of the novel in Whitby – so Scott based his version of Carfax Abbey on Whitby Abbey. The Count stands atop the Abbey walls – half Batman, half Wim Wenders' Wings of Desire angel.

Colm and Donna Feore graciously modelled for an interior drawing of the Count and Mina Harker.
