Shakespeare in the Park is a Montreal theatre company. Shakespeare in outdoor settings can be found in many cities, but this company’s unique mandate is touring it’s productions across the entire park system in Montreal (and to other cities in Quebec and Ontario), to reach a wider audience. This was a delicious assignment. When we think of various “park” scenes in Shakespeare (Love’s Labours Lost, The Merry Wives of Windsor, and of course As You Like It), the common denominator is a deer. Antlers are reminiscent of tree branches, so they immediately evoke a magical park setting; the mask adds the theatrical context. There’s a dark, sexy edge to the illustration – balanced by the typography which has a sense of whimsical, festive fun.
