Carlotta Monterey, the widow of Eugene O'Neill, chose Yale University Press as the publisher of Long Day's Journey into Night. The proceeds from the publication of the play support playwriting at Yale – so the School of Drama named its festival of new plays in her honor.

Punch & Judy branded this annual event with a vintage typewriter keyboard – the silhouette was created by placing the machine on a light table. The colors changed each season to create variations on the theme. Brochures and postcard were mailed to theatre producers across North America; posters and kiosks promoted the event on the Yale campus.
