Gene Tunney, world heavyweight boxing champion in the 1920s, shared a close personal friendship with Bernard Shaw, the most famous playwright of the 20th-century. The story of this unlikely relationship is told by Gene's son Jay Tunney in a 280-page book published by Firefly in 2010.
Punch & Judy designed the book. The author supplied rare photographs and memorabilia from the Tunney family archive, but our experience with historical picture research for the Shaw Festival theatre programmes came in handy as well. The book was printed in two colors; all the photographs are reproduced as duotones. For the cover, Scott hand-tined a 1929 black and white photo of Tunney and GBS.
